About The British Yemeni Society Journal
The British Yemeni Society Journal has been published annually since the Society was founded in 1993. A hard copy is distributed in October each year to members of the Society with each volume being made available in an online format on the Society’s website later in the year.
The journal is an important component of the Society’s activities and every volume contains articles penned by academics, independent researchers and experts on a wide range of topics including history, politics, culture, the economy, geography and ecology. It also contains reviews of recent publications on Yemen, and the obituaries of significant Yemeni figures and those from the UK who have spent time working in Yemen.
The first Honorary Editor of the journal was James Nash who shepherded the first five volumes to publication. In 1998, he passed on the baton to the second Honorary Editor, John Shipman, and Helen Lackner was invited to assume the position in 2013. After seven years of editing, Helen stepped down and Thanos Petouris took over the role in 2021, producing the most recent issue in an exciting new format.
Now in its twenty-ninth volume, the academic merit of the British–Yemeni Society Journal has been recognised by its inclusion in the EBSCOhost online academic database. A full set of journals can be found at the British Library (Shelfmark: ZC.9.a.4508) and the SOAS University of London Library (Classmark: Lee Per 5/965874).
The current Honorary Editor, Thanos Petouris, is always keen to be approached with suggestions for articles and can be reached at the following email address: editor@British Yemeni Society.org.uk
